Code by Fab (2/Aug/2009) Blasphemy against the Spirit.
I searched using the Hebrew spelling of the expression "blasphemy against the Spirit" used in Matthew 12:31 (the other spellings were too long), and found nothing interesting in the Tanakh. Then, I searched with CodeFinder (the only software allowing to do that so far) in the Peshitta, and found out: 1)
That the lowest skip of this expression (2 occurrences found, versus
3 expected statistically) showed up near this passage:
Hebrews
6:4: "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened,
and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the
Holy Ghost,
5
And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the
world to come,
6
If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance;
seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him
to an open shame."
Which
is interesting, since some commentators make a connection between
this blasphemy and this passage from the Book of Hebrews (see below):
"There
is such a thing as opposition to divine influence that is so persistent
and deliberate, because of continual preference of darkness to light,
that repentance, and therefore forgiveness become impossible. The
Law of Moses made a distinction between sins committed unintentionally,
for which atonement could be made, and sins committed in open defiance
of God. The person who acts "defiantly... is blaspheming the Lord...,
has despised the word of the Lord and has broken His commandment...,
shall be completely cut off; his guilt shall be on him" (Num. 15:30-31).
The Hebrews writer said it is impossible to renew to repentance those
who crucify the Son of God afresh, placing themselves in a state of
open repudiation of the only way of salvation (Heb. 6:4-6). For them
"there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins" (10:26f). They
have sinned the sin "unto death" (1 John 5:16)."
2)
When running a wrapped search (9 occurrences found versus 18 expected),
one of the largest skip's letter in the word "Spirit" shows up in Mark
1:27, in the expression "unclean spirits"
"And
they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves,
saying, 'What thing is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority
commandeth He even the unclean spirits, and they do obey Him."
And
Jesus says in Mark 3:28-30 about the blasphemy against the
Holy Spirit:
Mark
3:28: "Verily I say unto you, 'All sins shall be forgiven unto the
sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
29
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit has never
forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
30
Because they said, 'He has an unclean spirit'.'"
I
was unable to find any extensions though.
